Abigail, a stressed-out TV executive, is developing a new show called The Cinderella Chronicles that promises to turn the classic fable into a soapy tale of class inequality, center-left politics, and feminist indignation. Only she has no cast. Her assistant is MIA. And her head writer is threatening to quit! Determined to salvage the situation by using the hardball tactics of her male bosses, Abigail starts to lose herself—until an overworked temp named Cynthia stumbles into the office as if from thin air. When even a cup of coffee begins to taste like a magical potion, and Cynthia’s battalion of shady stepsisters turn up to pitch a “lifestyle” brand, Abigail is forced to summon her own best instincts to navigate the delicate space where fairy tales end, and real life begins.
